YCM Activities: Welcoming VIDA

If you’re not from Australia you might wonder what is VIDA. To make a long story short, VIDA is an abbreviation for Volunteering for International Development from Australia. A governmental programm that sends Australians in the same way like the “weltwärts”-program. Well YCM itself is cooperating with VIDA and we offer an unique experience to welcome new volunteers. So by now YCM has been chosen several times to hold the arrival program for the volunteers. This time we tried something new. As soon as our guests arrived we introduced them shortly to our project. Then we grouped them together with several students and sent them out to fullfil a certain quest. Mostly to take a picture of a specific object and to buy a specific fruit. Further they had to solve certain tasks like having conversations with locals. Supported by a group of students they could easily fullfill the required and learnt a lot about indonesian culture via living it themself. Boosted with confidence they came back from their first adventure and told us about their impressions. It worked out well and in a few weeks we will host some AYAD volunteers, with AYAD standing for Autralian Youth Ambassadors for Development.
