Short Circuit – Kurzschluss – Cortocircuito

English: You know these days? You are randomly watching TV, nothing you really meant to watch. As you don’t really care, you are actually more occupied with your computer than with the TV itself. It is a cultural coverage on Arte following a movie you watched and it is way beyond midnight. There is no reason to be watching, but you don’t bother turning of the TV. Then between all these pieces of information you never asked for you hear some words. You first didn’t realize you really heard them. You look up on the TV screen, but the speaker already continued and you wonder if you really heard them. You try to occupy yourself once again with your e-mails but you certainly got moved by these words. They were Buena Vista Social Club. Now for those you didn’t know: They are one of the greatest musical composition Cuba has ever seen, playing all their traditional music. They got assembled by Ry Cooder. He got together the best voices of the golden ages of Cuban Music and resurrected some music that nearly had been lost for the world. For the matter of time most of these wonderful musicians are dead by now but their music will live on. Suddenly you have an urge to listen to their music and after all from what you had been catching on TV it must have been a portrait about one of these singers. Your attention gets drawn away from your computer even though you tried to stay focused. But the program about that singer still isn’t due for another few minutes. Your eyes simply don’t care anymore for the e-mails, even though the Buena Vista Social Club – or a part of it – isn’t even on the screen yet. You know that feeling when it’s late at night and you become like comatose? It all gets washed away the very second that little piece of program starts. Omara Portuondo. The woman singing in all those wonderful songs. They play some of the best songs and you are already enchanted only by listening to them. But here comes the real clue, she’s touring around the world. Now ever since you knew the Buena Vista Social Club you had the dream to see them on the stage once. But lamentably their biggest time was in the 90’s when you still didn’t know nor cared about them. You already had accepted your fate that you would never see them live but that suddenly changed. In a rush you open up several internet pages trying to find out where and when she would come to Europe. You find her to be playing in Lucerne, Switzerland. Out of curiousity you open a page where you can book seats and I find only little to be still free. You just can’t resist the idea, so you click on one of these seats and it asks whether you want to book it. You just say yes. So here you are watching Omara Portuondo in May. Now that you bought the ticket you realize that only 15 minutes ago you would never have expected these things to happen. You know these days? I just had one.

Omara Portuondo.

Conoces a esos días?
