I just got back from Geneva. It had been four very intense days and not only because of the Conference. You see on Thursday I was getting to Geneva and went straight to the Graduate Institute. The building the Conference was taking place at is situated in a public park at the very brink of the lake Léman. I got there a little early so I had the great chance to read in the Institutes magazine Globe. Soon enough the first other participant came. A British-Iranian, who joined because the Green Party of England had suggested him to do so. The first of many people to come from so many parts of the world. At the opening people were still about to get to know one another, so it still was rather stiff, but already at the second day the atmosphere got really personal and comfortable. We got introduced to our committees and my committee was in the lucky position to have a wonderful guest-speaker right away. Prof. Elisabeth Prügl held a discussion with us. She gave us insightful answers and debated with us on a very high level. I enjoyed asking questions and getting interesting answers to them. Her input was really appreciated by all of us and definitely found some reflection in our final statement. In the second evening we had the great chance to eat in an Ethiopian/Eritrean Restaurant called Nyala Barka. It was amazing to eat traditional Ethiopian food. The salty pancakes served with different sauces, salad and meat on a huge flat bowl were just delicious. And once again eating with hands brought back remarkable memories of my time in Indonesia. On the next day we really got productive and came quite far in producing the text of our statement. In the breaks I managed to talk to many of the other committees’ participants. For the little time we had I couldn’t quite bound as well with them as I did it with my committee’s members, but nonetheless I learn a lot, had great talks with Mexicans, Turks, Singaporean, British, Kenyan,  American and many more. In the end I must say the time passed by to fast, but the party at the third day’s night gave us a chance to at least celebrate together. On the last day we did the fine-tuning on our statement and in the end it got passed unanimously by the General Assembly of the GIMUN Youth Perspectives. We spent our last hours together on the meadow in front of the building enjoying the sun and the beautiful view on the Lake Léman. The final statement I will publish once the GIMUN has published it – it will be soon.

Ich bin gerade aus Genf zurückgekommen. Es waren vier sehr angefüllte Tage, nicht nur wegen der Konferenz. Ich kam also am Donnerstag nach Genf und ging direkt zum Graduate Institute. Das Gebäude in dem die Konferenz stattfand, ist in einem öffentlichen Park am Ufer des Genfersees. Ich kam etwas zu früh und hatte deshalb die Möglichkeit das Magazin des Institutes Globe zu lesen. Schon bald darauf kamen die ersten Teilnehmer. Ein iranischer Brite, der aufgrund einer Einladung der Grünen Englands dabei war, war der erste von vielen, die aus aller Welt anreisten. Während der Eröffnung ging es noch etwas steif zu, da die Leute erst miteinander warm werden mussten, aber schon am zweiten Tag wurde die Atmosphäre angenehm und persönlich. Wir haben uns mit unseren Komitees vertraut gemacht und in meinen Komitee hatten wir das Glück gleich zu Anfang eine wunderbare Gastsprecherin zu haben. Prof. Elisabeth Prügl führte mit uns eine Diskussion. Sie gab uns inhaltsreiche Antworten und debatierte mit uns auf einem sehr hohen Niveau. Ich persönlich habe es genossen Fragen zu stellen und interssante Antworten zu bekommen. Ihre Anmerkungen waren herzlich Willkommen und spiegeln sich definitiv auch in unserem Abschlussstatement wieder. Am zweiten Abend hatten wir das Vergnügen in einem äthiopischen/eritrieschen Restaurant namens Nyala Barka zu essen. Es war genial traditionelles äthiopisches Essen zu essen. Die salzigen Pfannenkuchen serviert mit unterschiedlichen Soßen, Salat und Fleisch in einer riesigen, flachen Schüssel, waren einfach köstlich. Und hinzu kam, dass mit den Händen zu essen schöne Erinnerungen an meine Zeit in Indonesien zurückbrachte. Am nächsten Tag waren wir sehr aktiv und kamen ein gutes Stück voran mit dem Text für unser Abschlussstatement. In den Pausen fand ich etwas Zeit mit den Mitgliedern der anderen Komitees zu reden. Leider hatten wir kaum Zeit, und so konnte ich mit den anderen Teilnehmern nicht so enge Bande schließen, wie mit denen aus meinem Komitee. Dennoch habe ich viel gelernt und wunderbare Unterhaltungen mit Mexikanern, Türken, Singapurer, Briten, Kenianer, Amerikaner und vielen mehr geführt. Die Zeit verging so schnell, aber die Feier am dritten Abend gab uns allen noch einmal eine Chance zusammen zu feiern. Am letzten Tage haben wir die letzten Details unseres Abschlussstatements ausgearbeitet und es wurde einstimmig von der Hauptversammlung der GIMUN Youth Perspectives angenommen. Die letzten Stunden in Genf verbrachten wir zusammen auf der Wiese vor dem Tagungsgebäude und genossen die Sonnenstrahlen und die wunderschöne Sicht auf den Genfersee. Das Abschlussstatement werde ich veröffentlichen, sobald GIMUN es veröffentlicht hat – was sehr bald sein wird.

Acabo de llegar de Ginebra. Fueron cuatro días largísimos, no solamente por la conferencia. Llegue el jueves a Ginebra y me fui directamente al Graduate Institute. La conferencia era situada en un edificio que se encontraba en el centro de un parque público en la orilla del Lago Lemán. Llegue tan temprano que tuve la posibilidad de leer en el Globe, la revista del instituto. Luego llegaron otros participantes. Un británico-iraní, que fue el invitado del partido verde de Britania, era el primero de muchos, que llegó de otras partes del mundo. Durante la inauguración la gente aún era distanciada, ya que no se conocía. Pero al segundo día el ambiente se puso confortable y hasta personal. Nos familiarizaron con nuestros comités y en mi comité tuvimos la suerte de empezar con una maravillosa oradora invitada. Prof. Elisabeth Prügl disputaba con nosotros. Nos dio respuestas largas y complejas y el nivel de la discusión era bastante alto. Personalmente puedo decir que disfrutaba preguntarla y obtener respuestas tan interesantes. Sus observaciones y comentarios eran bienvenidos y sin duda se reflejan en nuestra declaración final. En la segunda noche nos fuimos a un restaurante etíope-eritreo con el nombre Nyala Barka. Fue genial comer los platos tradicionales de Etiopía. Esos panqueques salados con tantas salsas, ensaladas y carnes en esos platos tan largos, simplemente eran deliciosos. Además de comer con las manos me recordaba de mis buenos tiempos en Indonesia. Durante el próximo día estuvimos muy productivos, casi terminamos con nuestro texto para la declaración. Use mis recreos para hablar con gente de otros comités. Lamentablemente no tuve bastante tiempo para conocerlos tan bien como los miembros de mi comité, pero aún así aprendí mucho y hablé con mexicanos, turcos, singapureños, británicos, keniatas y muchos más. El tiempo pasó rápido, por lo menos tuvimos la posibilidad de festejar en la tercera noche. El último día finalizamos nuestra declaración y la pasaron unísona en la asamblea general de GIMUN Youth Perspectives. Nuestras últimas horas juntas en Ginebra las pasamos en el parque frente del edificio de la conferencia para disfrutar el sol y la vista al Lago Lemán. La declaración final publicaré cuando el GIMUN lo publica – que será muy pronto.
