In spring this year I co-authored an introductory article on societal implications of Smart Cities in the Digital Development Debates (DDD) Issue #18 – Cities. The DDD is an online magazine that aspires to offer an interdisciplinary platform for discussions between experts as well as layman. It is sponsored by the German Society for International Cooperation [Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)].

The article focuses in the first part on laying out the technical possibilities of the present and the near future and in the second part moves on to the societal implications and “debates” that must follow.
