About Surprises

I imagine you want you hear beautiful stories from Borneo, so do I. But mine is different. Very different. All starts with the morning before the flight, I didn’t feel that well. But I ignore it, I don’t want to miss that chance for a dumb feeling. So we headed of to the airport and I felt worse by now. So by the time we came to my uncle’s and aunt’s house I had fever. So I enjoyed a bedroom for the most of the time there. My uncle and aunt there got their houses next to another and they are connected by a door. The following pictures are you only ones I made … and pretty much all I can remember … back home my throat started to hurt. So I got my second desease with hold me down another day. But now I’m back on my feet.

Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass ihr wunderbare Geschichten aus Borneo hören wollt, das würde ich auch gerne. Aber meine Geschichte ist anders. Sehr anders. Alles beginnt mit dem Morgen vor dem Abflug. I fühlte mich nicht so gut. Aber ich ignorierte es, ich wollte diese Chance nicht wegen eines dummen Gefühls verpassen. So ging es also zum Flughafen und mir wurder immer schlechter. Als wir dann endlich zu meines Onkels und Tantes Haus kamen hatte ich Fieber. So genoss ich dort das Schlafzimmer für die meiste Zeit. Mein Onkel und meine Tante haben ihre Häuser nebeneinander und sie sind durch eine Tür verbunden. Die Bilder sind die einzigen, die ich gemacht habe … und so ziemlich alles an das ich mich erinnern kann … wieder Zuhause tat mein Hals weh. Meine zweite Krankheit also, die mich einen weiteren Tag ans Bett band. Aber jetzt bin ich wieder auf den Beinen.

Me imagino que quieren escuchar historias lindas de Borneo, lo quería tambien. Pero la mia es diferente. Muy diferente. Todo empezó la mañana antes del vuelo, no me sentí tan bien. Pero lo ignoraba, porque no queria perder ese chance por un setimiento estupido. Asi nos ibamos al aeropuerto y me sentia peor. Cuando llegabamos a la casa de mi tio y de mi tia tuve fiebre. Asi que disfrutaba la sala de dormir por la mayoria del tiempo. Mi tio y mi tia tienen sus casas a lado y una puerta les entreconecta. Los siguiente fotos son las unicas que hice … y es todo lo que recuerdo … de vuelta en casa mi cuello me dolió. Asi mi segunda enfermedad me forzo en la cama por otro dia. Pero ya estoy curado.

Vacation and other little things

So I’ve been on Lebaran-Holidays since Wednesday. Lebaran or Idul Fitri (arabic: becoming holy again) is the end of the Ramadhan-Month and concludes the fasting time by asking everybody for forgiveness. You could compare it to Christmas-Holidays in christian countries. Tomorrow I’ll be heading to Southborneo, more exactly Kalimantan. You’ll see some beautiful pictures in the next week. We will stay there only for three nights and four days because it’s mainly about the family gathering. It’s the family from my passed away hostmother’s side. But the bounds are deep so everybody is so excited to get there. The family there is huge I’ve been told. And after a lot of uncertainties I will get my internet soon, for real. Today I’ll buy my modem for the laptop and now I’m online. Maybe you hear more from me now … maybe.

Seit Mittwoch habe ich nun Lebaran-Ferien. Lebaran oder Idul Fitri (arabisch: wieder heilig werden) ist das Ende des Ramadhan-Monats und beendet somit die Fastenzeit indem man jeden um Verzeihung für seine Taten bittet. Man könnte es mit den Weihnachtsferien in christlichen Ländern vergleichen. Morgen werde ich nach Südborneo fliegen, genauer gesagt nach Kalimantan. Ihr werdet nächste Woche wunderbare Bilder sehen. Wir werden nur drei Nächte und vier Tage dort bleiben, denn es geht hauptsächlich um die Familienversammlung. Es ist die Familie meiner verstorbenen Gastmutter. Aber die Familie ist fest vereint und alle können es kaum erwarten dorthin zu kommen. Die Familie ist rießig, wurde mir gesagt. Und nach so vielen Unklarheiten werde ich mein Internet jetzt sehr bald bekommen, wirklich. Heute kaufe ich das Modem für meinen Laptop und jetzt bin ich online. Vielleicht hört ihr bald mehr von mir … vielleicht.

Ya estoy en vacaciones de Lebaran desde miércoles. Lebaran o Idul Fitri (arabe: volverse sagrado otra vez) es el final del mes de Ramadhan y termina el tiempo de ayuno con pedir perdón a todos. Se podría comparar con los vacaciones de navidad en países cristianos. Mañana me iré a Borneo Sureño, más precisamente a Kalimantan. En la próxima semana verán fotos maravillosas. Sólo nos quedaramos allá unos tres noches y cuatro días porque principalmente se trata de una reunión de familia. Es la familia de mi madre muerta de hospedaje. Pero son tan cercano que cada quien está ancioso a irse ya. La familia debe ser grandísima me han contado. Y despues de tantas incertitumbres ya está fijo que tendré internet de pronto, de verdad. Hoy compraré mi modem y ya estoy conectado. A lo mejor escucharan más de mi desde ahora … quizá.

About a Sunday

This sunday begun pretty normal with me waking up. Besides an AFS-Activity in the morning I went to Puncak with my family. The house is restaureted by now and there had to be a opening ceremony. This event would take place today. But before all the people would come there was a lot of time to kill. Which we did most efficiently by wandering around. I took some awesome pictures in the tea fields. By the time we came back to the house the family and the neighbors around had gathered already. The religious ceremony to consecrate the house began. The man prayed on the floor and after maybe half an hour the ceremony concluded in food for everybody. The neighbors took their food home because there wouldn’t have been space for all of us eating. But still with the family only it was pretty crowded. Mbak Detta or my oldest hostsister gave me a sarong, the traditional muslim skirt for men. Just tell me how you like it with the comment-function of my blog. So I had a day full of surprises and I enjoyed every single one of them.

Dieser Sonntag begann ziemlich normal mit meinem Erwachen. Mal abgesehen von einer AFS-Aktivität am Morgen ging meine Familie heute nach Puncak. Das Haus dort ist inzwischen restauriert und es gab eine Einweihungsfeier. Und zwar heute. Aber bevor all die Gäste kamen mussten wir noch viel Zeit verbringen. Das taten wir sogar sinnvoll indem wir umherzogen. Ich habe ein paar wunderbare Bilder in den Teefeldern aufgenommen. Als wir dann endlich wieder im Haus waren hatte sich schon die ganze Familie und Nachbarschaft dort versammelt. In einer religiösen Zeremonie wurde das Haus eingeweiht. Die Männer beteten gemeinsam auf dem Boden für etwa eine halbe Stunde. Der Höhepunkt wurde das Mahl danach. Die Nachbarn haben ihr Essen jedoch mit Nachhause genommen, da im Haus nicht genug Platz gewesen wäre. Aber selbst als nur noch die Familie da war, war das Haus noch immer sehr voll. Mbak Detta oder meine älteste Schwester hier gab mir einen Sarong, der traditionelle Rock für Männer. Ese domingo empezó normal conmigo desperdiendo. A lado de una actividad de AFS en la mañana mi familia iba a Puncak. Ya han restaurando la casa y hay que haber una gran fiesta de consegración. Y el evento será hoy. Antes de fiesta tuvimos demasiado tiempo. Pero lo pasabamos bien iendo por la región. Tomé fotos geniales en los campos de té. Al regresar ya estuvieron reunido toda la familia y todos los vecinos.  Había una ceremonía religiosa para consegrar la casa. Los hombres rezaron en el suelo y despues de media hora se concluyó a ceremonía en una gran cena. Los vecinos llevaron su comida a su casa, porque no hubo bastante campo en la casa para todos. Aún asi la casa estaba bastante llena con solo la familia. Mbak Detta o mi hermana más major me dió un sarong, la falda tradicional para el hombre. Escribanme como les gustan las fotos con la funcción de hacer comentarios de mi blog. Un día llena de sorpresas y disfrutaba cada una.

Elections, Birthdays and Books

Let’s begin with the most imporant: Happy Birthday Mom! Certain things are to be mentioned other every distance. Otherwise I got my polling information from the German State. They are already on their way back to Germany so they should be there before the 27th or Election day. I also dicided myself to buy my first book in Indonesian today. It is „The Hobbit“ and I will tell you as soon as I have finished it. Of cause bought a dictionary too. A Langenscheidt for some incredible two euros.

Fangen wir mit dem Wichtigsten an: Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Mama! Gewisse Dinge müssen über jede Distanz gesagt werden. Ansonsten habe ich heute meine Wahlunterlagen bekommen. Sie sind schon auf dem Weg nach Deutschland und sollten weit vor dem 27. oder Wahltag da sein. Außerdem entschied ich mich mein erstes Buch auf Indonesisch zu kaufen. Es ist „Der Hobbit“ und ich werde euch Bescheid geben, sobald ich fertig bin. Natürlich habe ich auch ein Wörterbuch gekauft. Ein Langenscheidt für unglaubliche zwei Euro.

Empezamos con lo más importante: Feliz cumpleaños máma! Algunos cosas se deben mencionar sobre todoas las distancias. Además llegaron mis informaciones de elecciónes nacionales de Alemania. Ya están en el camino a Alemania y deberían estar ahí antes del 27 o día de elecciones. También me decidí hoy de comprar mi primer libro en Indonesia. Es „El Hobbit“ y les contaré cuando lo habré terminado. Por supuesto también compré un diccionario. Un Langenscheidt por unos increíbles dos euros.

Did you know you are in Indonesia?

Today we had dinner with Gesine and she introduced us deeper into the foundation’s philosophy. We had a great time and a chance to get to know us better. I personally can say that I feel now more comfortable about my work. I can only look forward to meeting similar to this one. On the way back I starred out of the windows car and from one instance to another I realized for real that I’m Indonesia and I’m going to stay here for a whole year.

Heute haben wir mit Gesine zusammen abendgegessen und sie hat uns tiefer in die Philosophie der Stiftung eingeführt. Wir hatten eine gute Zeit und die Chance uns besser kennenzulernen. Persönlich fühle ich mich jetzt auch viel sicherer mit meiner Aufgabe hier. Ich kann abschließend nur sagen, dass ich weiteren Treffen dieser Art freundvoll entgegenblicke. Auf dem Nachhauseweg starrte ich aus dem Autofenster bis ich plötzlich verstand, dass ich wirklich in Indonesien bin und ein ganzes Jahr sein werde.

Hoy cenabamos con Gesine y ella nos introdució más profundamente en la filosofia de la fundacion.  Teníamos un buen tiempo y el chance de conocernos mejor. También puedo decir que después de esa reunión me siento más seguro con mi trabajo que hacer. Ya estoy esperando a más encuentros de esos. En el camino a casa miraba por la ventana y en un instante me daba cuenta que ya estoy en Indonesia de verdad y que voy a vivir  acá por un año.

Open-Fastening with Gesine or a Welcoming Party

So this tuesday was actually very special. Instead of normal clases we prepaired the Open-Fastening with Gesine. In the morning we prepaired the biggest room of the YCM for the festivity. For the first time in a long time the kitchen was in use. A big meal was prepaired by so many people I couldn’t mention them all here. A small group of students was still editing the movie that would be shown in the evening. During all these activities I could find some time to edit the next newsletter of the YCM about August which will be avaiable soon. In another room some tutors and students prepaired the music to be played in the evening. The whole YCM was so busy and nobody could await the beginning of this special occation. In the end about 200 persons came to festivity. Alumnis and students joined together and celebrated the existence of the YCM. You could really feel how the YCM changed their live or is about to change their live and how grateful they are for being a part of it. Dieser Dienstag war sehr besonders. Anstatt des normalen Unterrichts haben wir das Fastenbrechen mit Gesine vorbereitet. Am Morgen wurde der größte Raum des YCM hergerichtet. Das erste Mal in langer Zeit wurde die Küche wieder benutzt- Ein großes Mahl wurde zubereitet. Es waren so viele daran beteiligt, dass ich sie hier nicht aufzuzählen vermag. Eine kleine Gruppe bearbeitete immer noch den Film, der am Abend gezeigt werden würde. Während all dem fand ich etwas Zeit den Newsletter für den August zu editiern, der bald erhältlich sein wird. In einem anderen Zimmer bereiteten einige Tutoren und Schüler die Musik für das Abendprogramm vor. Das ganze YCM war tüchtig und keiner konnte den Abend erwarten. Letztendlich kamen stolze 200 Gäste. Sowohl Schüler als auch Alumni kamen zusammen um die Existenz des YCM zu feiern. Man konnte wirklich spüren wie das YCM ihr Leben verändert hat oder dabei ist es zu verändern und wie dankbar sie sind ein Teil davon zu sein. Ese martes era especial. No hubo clases normales sino preparabamos la fiesta del abrir al curaresmal con Gesine. En la mañana preparabamos la sala más grande del YCM. Por la primera vez en mucho tiempo se usaba la cocina. Tanta gente ayudaron a preparar la comida que ni siquiera podría nombrarles todos. Un pequeño grupo de estudiantes aún estaba editando a la película que se monstaría por la noche. Mientras todo eso encontré un poco de tiempo para editar al Newsletter de Agosto que se les presentará pronto. En otra sala unos tutores y estudiantes preparaban a la musica que se tocaría en la noche. Todo el YCM era ocupado y ninguno pudo esperar a la noche que empezar. Al final llegaron unos 200 personas a la festiedad. Tanto estudiantes recientes como anteriores se juntaron a celebrar el YCM. Se podía sentir que el YCM cambió a sus vidas o aún está cambiandolos y que agradecidos eran por ser parte de esto.

About ATM's

About ATM’s Aren’t they like our very best friend? Especially on these days where you want to just get some money and suddenly they tell you just have made an unauthorized intent to access the card and thus it will be retained. Well it even gets better when you consider that it is the bank’s policy to destroy every card that was accessed unauthorized if it is from another bank. Well I know want I’m going to do tomorrow. Trying to get that card back. And for the worst-case scenario I have also some alternatives. I won’t be dried up. But still it is annoying to have to get through this. Sind sie nicht unsere besten Freunde? Besonders an jenen Tagen an denen man einfach nur etwas Geld holen wollte und sie einem plötzlich erzählen, dass man einen nicht-autorisierten Zugriff auf die Karte versucht hat und diese infolgedessen einbehalten wird. Es wird sogar noch besser, wenn man bedenkt, dass es sich die Bank zur Police gemacht hat, dass fremde Karten bei unauthorisierten Zugriffen zerstört werden sollen. Ich weiß schon was ich morgen tun werde. Ich werde versuchen diese Karte wiederzubekommen. Und für den schlimmsten Fall bin ich auch schon gerüstet. Ich werde hier schon nicht pleite gehen. Aber anstrengend ist es trotzdem das alles durchzumachen. A caso no son nuestros mejores amigos? Especialmente en esos días en que se quiere sacar un poquito de plata y de repente nos cuentan que se ha intentado un acceso no autorisado y que por lo tanto van a retener la carta. Aún es mejor si se considera que es la policia del banco de destruir cualquier carta extranjera que se detenga por un acceso no autorisado. Ya se que haré mañana por la mañana. Intentaré de recuperar mi carta. De todos modos estoy preparado para lo peor con unas alternativas. No estaré sin dinero. Pero me molestar pasear por eso.
